PET LIFE

A loose pet sitting calmly in the back seat can get hurt during an accident.

Don't wait until an accident occurs before thinking about the safety of your pet. There is a great deal of potential danger when driving with an unrestrained pet in the car.

THE STORY OF JOE
By: Kathy Fisher
"PAWS Client Joe died of auto immune hemolytic anemia at 3:03 P.M. on September 17, 1999. He would not look me in the eye as he lay dying; although I tried several times, he averted his eyes. Perhaps he felt that he was failing me in his role as Service Dog. He could not have been more wrong. It is difficult to know where to begin and what to include in The Story of Joe. He was rescued from the Southfield Animal Shelter in June of 1990, and named after Joe Dumars. In October of that year, he became my Service Dog, trained by Paws With A Cause. I have Multiple Sclerosis, and used a wheelchair at that time. Joe pulled my wheelchair, picked up things I dropped, opened doors, brought me the telephone, retrieved crutches, braces, shoes, javelins, discus', ski boots, tennis racquets, and a myriad of other items. He opened doors in my life, literally, and figuratively. He brought hundreds of wonderful people into my life, many of whom became friends. Joe brought me my braces and crutches daily, but more importantly, he braced and supported me as I learned to accept and deal with the obstacles that MS threw at me. Joe was a steadying influence in the roller coaster ride of MS. He made me smile, and gave me reasons to continue living when I thought I had few."
